JAX THOIRS

Born: Jax Donald Will Thoirs, Glasgow, 7 April 1993. Club: Victoria Park City of Glasgow AC. Coach: Pat Licari.

 

Mixed events as a youngster, before turning to pole vault in 2007 when he topped the under-15 rankings. Progressed quickly to 4.10 in 2008, 4.60 in 2009, and over 5 metres in 2011, adding under-20 and Native indoor records in 2012 to improve to 5.20 metres. In 2012, he transferred to the Universiy of Washington in USA, improving to 5.25 in March 2013. His progress continued with Scottish best performances of 5.37 and 5.40 in successive weeks in Seattle in April/May 2013. One year later, he had raised his best to 5.60. Having improved to 5.65 in 2015, he achieved his biggest success to date in 2016 when winning the NCAA Indoor Championship title.
