DEREK HAWKINS

Born: Derek John Hawkins, 29 April 1989. Clubs: Leeds City AC & Kilbarchan AAC. Coach: Robert Hawkins.

 

Part of a running family with brothers Callum and Scott also successful, Derek emerged as a top-class cross-country athlete, representing GB at World and European level and winning the Scottish senior title in 2011 and 2012. His 65:24 debut half-marathon indicated future marathon potential, and his debut marathon in 2012 of 2:14:04 gave notice of a top-class prospect on the marathon scene. In April 2013, he was 1st Brit home at the London marathon in 2:16:50. He ran the marathon for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games and has been selected for the Olympic Games at Rio in 2016.
